Long & Foster Living
Apex, NC
Apex real estate is home to 31,000 residents and is located just west of Raleigh
in Wake County, North Carolina. Its motto, “the peak of good living,” was
underscored by the town’s recent recognition by Money Magazine as one of the 100
Best Places in America to Live. Many Apex real estate owners attribute this honor
to the town’s turn-of-the-century charm. Apex was incorporated in 1873, earning
its unique name by being the highest point on the Chatham Railroad, connecting
Richmond, VA to Jacksonville, FL. The historic Apex Depot, built in 1914,
still stands on Apex real estate today and houses the Apex Chamber of Commerce.
It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the centerpiece
of Apex’s Historic Downtown District, thanks to the dedicated preservation efforts
of the Apex Historical Society.
While Apex’s rich history is an undeniable attraction, the popularity of Apex real
estate can also be attributed to its proximity to both
Raleigh and Research Triangle Park, a 7,000-acre planned research center.
As a result, town officials have had to balance the desire to maintain Apex’s historic
character with the very real demands that accompany the development of Apex real
estate. One solution is the “Apex Peakway”. Already under construction, this
road will loop around downtown Apex to both alleviate traffic experienced by Apex
real estate owners in the town’s center and provide commuters with a convenient
bypass. For more on Apex, see the facts below.
